Mr. Suk-Jin Hwang is a senior advisor of Shin & Kim. Before joining Shin & Kim, Mr. Hwang was General Counsel within the SK Group from 2000 to February 2014.

Mr. Hwang is a leading practitioner of corporate, energy, telecom law, as well as an expert in merger and acquisitions law. His experience spans both domestic (Korean) and foreign jurisdictions. Mr. Hwang started his career in 1984 as a legal associate of Yukong Ltd., Korea’s foremost oil conglomerate and founding company of SK Group’s now renowned energy and oil business. In 1989, Mr. Hwang attended law school in both New York University and Notre Dame University, after being selected by SK Group to be the first company-sponsored employee to pursue post graduate education abroad. After establishing SK Group’s first ever foreign practice in-house legal department, Mr. Hwang was promoted to Senior Vice President of SK Corporation in 2000, becoming the youngest officer in SK history.

As General Counsel, Mr. Hwang oversees all aspects of corporate governance and cross-border transactions. From his participation in some of the most important transactions on record for SK Group (and Korea), Mr. Hwang is recognized for his expertise in managing strategic legal and global business ventures, including mergers and acquisitions, liquidation, securities offerings and purchases, corporate finance, and government regulatory matters, including Korean Capital Markets and Anti-trust law, for transactions in Korea and foreign jurisdictions, such as Hong Kong, Italy, Brazil, United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States.

Mr. Hwang was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1992.
