Mr. Daeyong Baek, an attorney at Shin & Kim, was recently appointed as an advisor to the Ministry of Public Administration and Security (MOPAS) Research Council.
The Personal Information Protection Act (the “Act”) was enacted on 11 March 2011 and is slated to come into force on 30 September 2011. The purpose of the Act is to (i) protect personal information and data, (ii) replace the Act on the Protection of Personal Information Maintained by Public Institutions, and (iii) cover businesses which are not covered under other laws which protect the private information of consumers.
Mr. Baek specializes in broadcast communications and personal information protection and has served as an advisor for a number of relevant organizations including the Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Internet Security Agency. He is currently a professional member of the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee at MOPAS.
