Mr. Jonghyun Lee is currently a partner at Shin & Kim and is well versed in general civil and criminal litigation, as well as corporate and insurance law.

Mr. Lee is widely recognized for his responsible attitude in handling cases by meticulously analyzing records from the client's perspective based on his in-depth understanding of civil, criminal, insurance and corporate law. Since joining Shin & Kim, Mr. Lee has primarily dealt with litigation matters and recently completed his Ph.D. (specializing in commercial law) at Seoul National University School of Law, demonstrating his continued interest in corporate, insurance, and private international law.

Mr. Lee graduated from Seoul National University College of Law and received his J.D. from Seoul National University School of Law. Prior to joining Shin & Kim, he worked as a public service advocate at the Ministry of Justice, etc., serving as a public service advocate at the Seoul Immigration Office and at the Legal Profession Division of the Ministry of Justice, where he conducted reviews of judicial and bar examinations.

• Represented insurers in lawsuits related to construction insurance policies, construction plant and equipment insurance policies and motor vehicle recall insurance
• Represented shareholders or a company in a (non-contentious) case concerning the determination of the purchase price following a comprehensive share exchange and the exercise of shareholders' appraisal rights following a business transfer
• Represented an overseas real estate developer in a claim for damages arising out of a business valuation
• Represented a client in a claim for damages and penalty for breach of representations and warranties in the course of a business acquisition
• Defended against a hostile takeover of a listed company (injunction against issuance of new shares, permission to convene a general meeting of shareholders, injunction against inspection of the list of shareholders, advice on general meetings of shareholders, etc.)
• Represented a client in a dispute between the founding members of a venture company concerning the interpretation of the obligation for continuous service under a business partnership agreement
• Represented a client in a claim for damages related to an industrial accident against a major Korean conglomerate

• Represented a Korean bank in an export payment claim arising from U.S. sanctions against Russia

Criminal

• Represented a client and obtained acquittal in a case of violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud) and the Subsidy Management Act in connection with a local investment promotion subsidy for small and medium-sized enterprises
• Represented a client and obtained acquittal in a case prosecuted for violation of the Telecommunications Business Act on the premise that teleconferencing services and webcasting constitute value-added telecommunications services under the Act
• Represented a major Korean construction company in a case of violation of the Clean Air Conservation Act and obtained suspension of imposition of sentence
• Represented a major Korean conglomerate in a criminal trial in which the illegality of the prosecution's seizure procedure was at issue
• Represented the head of a Korean franchise company and obtained acquittal in an appellate case involving dangerous collective conduct under the Road Traffic Act, overturning the first instance conviction
• Responded to a domestic prosecution of an international student from China and obtained judgment of transfer to the Juvenile Department
• Represented a civilian military employee and obtained decision to commence retrial by requesting a review of a military court’s final judgment against him
• Represented a high-ranking public official and defended at the trial stage in cases of abuse of authority and obstructing another from exercising his or her right, violation of the Public Official Election Act by the head of a basic local government, violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery) by public company employees, violation of the Game Industry Promotion Act, and violation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act
